Tips for How to Say Goodbye to Summer

The time has come to cold wash our swimsuits and hang them to dry. Wash away the salt and chlorine and prep for a new season. We laughed and danced. We cried and adventured. Had sex, sat in dry spells, and focused on our social selves.

But it’s time for an energy shift. The temperature isn’t the only thing lowering, so is our summer adrenaline. Our bodies and minds have been in a race for excitement all season. We’ve been busy searching for the next escape, flirting with the sun-drenched cuties, and finding new versions of ourselves.

It’s been equal parts exciting and exhausting. An infamous continuous war of the Big E’s. After a Summer of battles, we’ve pulled together our favorite tips for seasonal reminiscing, identifying lessons, and focus shifting. Some call these seasonal change tips housekeeping, but that word feels too permanent.

Sift through our tips and find one that works for you. Everyone uses different detergents.

End of Summer Journal Entry

A lot has happened this summer and we aren’t just talking about your social life. The world went a little crazy this season, mixing up our emotions. Take a moment to write your favorite memories of this summer. Then write the not-so-pleasant ones. A few lessons may pop up in your words. Processing the last three months is therapeutic.

A Self Care No Social Movie Night

FOMO was real this summer and the quick incline of lifestyle reels has not helped. Mark a night in your calendar (preferably a weekend) to spend time alone. We love our friends, but we love ourselves too. We’ve given a lot of energy to others this Summer and it’s time to return some of that to ourselves. Grab your favorite face mask, order takeaway, pick your favorite movie, and turn off your social media notifications. Be in the moment for yourself.

(For an ultimate phone break, turn your phone on Do Not Disturb!)

Closet Cleaning to Pay the Summer Bills

Remember those suitcases filled with fall/winter clothes you shoved under the bed aggressively last spring? They need air. This is probably the most annoying task with the highest satisfaction rate. It’s time to switch our closest to the new season. Our clothes remind us of the summer memories and get us excited for the new fall adventures to come. Just think of the new outfit possibilities. It’s a chance to let go of the pieces we don’t care for anymore and sell them on Poshmark. And pay off all those summer bills…

To Cuff or Not to Cuff

For some, summer is about exploration, and who’s saying it needs to end? But it can if you want it to. There is a strange shift in dating expectations when the weather changes. People merge into twos (or threes, if you’re into that thing). We like cuddles in the cold, but we don’t have to cuddle anyone but ourselves. September is the perfect month to reevaluate your own dating desires and expectations. Think, write it down, or chat with your friends. Take this month to figure out what your heart needs. Maybe it’s self-love with a side of casual sex? A new relationship? Perhaps it’s strictly “me” time? Before the seasonal couple love reels start popping up, use this month to find confidence in your dating decision (subject to change)
